A Geophysicist is a perfect role for those with an inquiring mind and keen interest in science. Day to day tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Studying the properties of rocks and minerals
  • Research and study of other planets
  • Assist with data provision for search and rescue
  • Study patterns of activity of volcanoes
  • Study and measure earthquake activity and gravity
  • Study and measure magnetic and electrical fields
  • Study, measure and report on coastline risk for tsunamis and storms
  • Measure, process and report on data collected from GPS systems
  • Locate and study natural deposits such as minerals, oil, water and gas
  • Analyse geological layers of the oceans, earth and atmosphere
  • Provide reports, data and advice to civil defence and government agencies about environmental risks including volcano activity, earthquakes and volcanoes
  • Write papers and compile research for submission to journals
  • Write research reports and papers with the results of their studies
  • Supervise research projects at universities
  • Lecture at university
  • Develop numerical models based on the findings of experiments and research
